One of my favorite childhood memories was having a big heaping bowl of homemade ice cream made by our family friend, Kenny Fulmer. Even better was when they would send us home with leftovers and I'd get to snack on it for several days. I love Kenny's homemade ice cream!! So when we stayed in Tyler last year for a few weeks before we moved to Virginia, I asked him to show me how to make it. I have enjoyed making it for my boys and for guests this summer. Here's the very yummy recipe:
Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream
3 eggs
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 heaping Tbsp flour
1 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt
1 can Eagle brand condensed milk
1 pint half and half cream
whole milk
ice cream salt
large bag of ice
Beat the eggs in a blender for 2-3 minutes. The blender should run the entire time you are adding ingredients, just pop off the little opening on top and pour stuff in. Add the condensed milk and the half and half. Add vanilla, flour, salt, and sugar. Let the mixture run for a minute or so, then stop and pour the mixture into the ice cream machine container. Pour whole milk halfway up the blender container and mix for a few seconds to get all that's left. Pour the milk into the ice cream container and then fill to the fill line with whole milk. Turn on the machine and start adding layers of ice and ice cream salt until it's completely to the top. When the machine stops, voila!, you have yummy homemade ice cream.
