31 Days of Love Letters: Searching Scripture for How God Loves

My ebook, 31 Days of Love Letters: Searching Scripture for How God Loves, is a free gift of thanks to those who subscribe to my blog. (To receive yours, see the instructions at the bottom of this post.)

About the Ebook:
Sometimes I want to erase everything I know about God that I learned from church, other Christians, Christian culture, culture in general, movies, songs, and t-shirts. I want to fill that blank slate with rich biblical truth, with what is actually in the Bible and what it actually says about God. I fear that I am too often unaware of how He actually is and in how He loves.

So I went on an exploration for God in the Bible, inspired by A.W. Tozer's words in The Pursuit of God:
For it is not mere words that nourish the soul, but God Himself, and unless and until the hearers [or readers] find God in personal experience they are not the better for having heard [or read] the truth. The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him, that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God Himself in the core and center of their hearts.

As I read, I asked, “What does this tell me about God and who He is?” I looked for clues about His character, His likes, His dislikes, His way of acting. I didn't look for rules, principles, or bullet points, but for the living, feeling, thinking, acting Person of God.

To my delight, I found that what can sometimes seem like a mute, bleak, boring, incomprehensible Bible suddenly exploded with color, life, meaning, and even deeper wells to explore. God revealed Himself to be One with dimension and complexity and beauty and power and gentleness. And, most of all, One who loves.

Do you wonder how God really is too? Do you read books filled with definitive statements about God and wonder if He is really like that? Join me in my exploration through 31 Days of Love Letters: Searching Scripture for How God Loves. The book guides your own search for facets of God’s love by leading you through devotional readings in 31 different books of the Bible. Each reading begins and ends with passages of Scripture for reflection and response.

In 31 Days of Love Letters, you will discover that:

·      God loves.
·      God loves you personally.
·      God's love is plastered all over the Bible, even in the little-read or little-understood parts.
·      Although mysterious, God’s love is not a complete mystery. It is available to everyone who seeks Him.

This is so timely for me. I have been feeling the Lord saying that He wants me make Him the Love of my life. This is hard for me as an extrovert, I want something tangible that is right in front of me talking and touching and lifting me up. I am feeling so convicted that I will never have satisfaction with  my earthly loves if I do not fully embrace my heavenly love. I am excited to see how He uses these 31 days to move me forward in that journey.

I so enjoy reading your blog and look forward to each new post. But to be quite honest, I wasn't ready for this one. Challenges are so NOT easy for me, mainly because I dislike my own failures and often refuse to try things because of the risk of failing. However, I've felt a strong stirring to participate that refuses to go away. So I guess I'm in (yikes! Did I really just say that?). Thanks for the challenge!

Yay, Naomi! Do you already know what your 31 Days will be about? I look forward to reading so be sure and leave your blog address for me.

I also very much appreciate the encouragement. I think I'll need some cheerleaders along the way this month. It's nice knowing that others are doing it too.

My blog is www.mrsnaomistephens.wordpress.com. It is more just a place to write out random things I'm learning and experiencing on my journey. Would enjoy some feedback. My 31 days topic "Marriage, Family, Ministry - My Role, God's Design".

Christine,
I to battle with what I think I hear from God. He has given me the gift of intercession, something I don't share with a lot of people because I never want it to be about me, but all about Him. He will place people in my thoughts, on my heart and impress upon me, needs or struggles they are having, least I think that is what He is saying. Is it Him, is it me? Is it Him and the doubts come from the enemy? Never hurts to pray for others that's for certain. Where it gets a little trickier, is when I'm asked to DO something, or say something to those that He gives me. There is risk there... opening up to share those things that God asks me to. It's a learning process for me, maybe a trusting process would be a better way to say it.
Had a dear friend place on my mind and was heavy on my heart all day the other day, finally popped her an email, telling her what was going on, and within the hour had confirmation that yes indeed she needed what He had ask me to pray. For me, still learning this gift and growing in my relationship with God, that was awesome!
I don't always get confirmation, and have been sent different directions with no indication why, was just told to go, so I went. Recently was asked to drive over to a friends house, I knew she wasn't home, but was asked to go. Nothing out of the ordinary was there, but God shared with me later, in those moments where you aren't sure WHY, those are the moments you are to PRAY.
Anyway, thanks for sharing, don't feel quite so alone with my doubts. His voice is getting easier to hear, I am trusting more, but I have a long way to go. Thanks again.

Amazing, I also have learned to pray, send a card, etc. for whoever pops into my mind, may times later I found out they had a need! God is Good, and sometimes, when I have a problem I do not know what to do about, I ask Him to have others remember me too! God Bless!
